In addition to its current grants to support travel, lodging and living expenses to enable research professionals from resource-poor countries to study research ethics and management, WCGF has expanded grant opportunities to include grants for salary support and Master’s Theses and Doctoral Dissertations.

Through the salary support grants, WCGF aims to assist faculty members in enhancing their level of understanding of research ethics and protections for research participants. As science becomes increasingly complicated, there is a growing need for those who are expert in conducting research to become expert in making ethical decisions about research.

These grants incentivize deans of academic colleges through small salary grants (up to $10,000) to individuals to provide release time to faculty who wish to pursue education and training in research ethics and the IRB at their own institutions or another institution.

WCGF also strives to motivate young scholars in any discipline to study research ethics and the IRB and other compliance processes by encouraging graduate-level research on research ethics, protections for research participants, and regulatory compliance.

Sound ethics are integrally intertwined with scientific merit. While there has been some research on research ethics, IRBs and other compliance processes, much remains to be learned. Discovering pathways to improving protections for research participants while advancing research at the same time is key to developing our future leaders.

WCGF provides small grants (up to $5,000) to support graduate student research projects in these areas.
